Synopsis

The book presented below is a significant contribution to the intersection between philosophy and social practice, developed within the framework of the BOECIO Project. Since its inception in 1999 at the University of Seville under the direction of Prof. José Barrientos, and its formalization in 2015, the BOECIO Project has explored the practical application of philosophy, especially Stoic philosophy, in real and challenging contexts. This work arises from a recent research project that examines the implementation of the BOECIO Project in vulnerable environments, particularly in the context of persons deprived of liberty (PDL) and at risk of exclusion.

The value of the book lies in its ability to combine philosophical tradition with innovative empirical methods, bridging theoretical and experimental philosophy. The work offers a multidimensional view on how experiential philosophy workshops can foster critical thinking, self-expression and self-knowledge, as well as contribute to care and social inclusion. Through a variety of perspectives and experiences, the book addresses the impact of Stoic philosophy on personal and social transformation.

Each chapter provides an in-depth and diverse reflection on different aspects of the BOECIO Project. From the experience of confinement and the importance of philosophical correspondence, to the evaluation of the impact of the project in Colombia and Argentina, the book offers a broad overview of how philosophy can be effectively integrated in contexts of high vulnerability. The inclusion of case studies, personal experiences and empirical analysis demonstrates not only the applicability of philosophy in everyday life, but also its potential to catalyze meaningful change in marginalized communities.

The text highlights educational innovation by combining traditional philosophical research methods with qualitative empirical approaches. This approach not only enriches the understanding of philosophy as a discipline, but also provides practical tools for the inclusion and social reintegration of people at risk. The book is enriched by the experience of researchers and educators who have worked directly in the field, providing a practical and authentic vision of the challenges and successes of the BOECIO Project.

In addition, the book addresses the need to strengthen evaluation methods and facilitator training to maximize project impact. Reflection on these aspects is crucial for the continued evolution and growth of similar initiatives in the future.
