Synopsis

This book is the result of teamwork between Colombian and Brazilian professors and researchers, who, from 2020 to 2022, held discussion meetings on the importance of strategic planning and management in companies. Considering the pandemic scenario, the researchers conducted joint research between Brazilian and Colombian companies.

The book consists of three chapters. The first section presents the comparative results of a survey conducted among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Brazil and Colombia. The study presents the main innovation strategies used by SMEs in these countries in the face of the covid-19 pandemic. The sample included 51 Brazilian and 31 Colombian SMEs. The research pointed out the economic-financial and people management difficulties of these companies, as well as the actions and initiatives in the context of the pandemic. The most frequently used innovation strategies were those related to marketing and communication and process innovation strategies. In addition, many similarities were identified in the management of organizational strategies between SMEs in the Brazilian and Colombian samples.

The second chapter includes the analysis of a survey conducted only with hotels in Santa Catarina (Brazil), with the objective of identifying the impacts of the pandemic on the hotel environment, given that the sector was one of the main affected by government restrictions. With a specific sample of 37 companies in the hotel sector. The research highlights the importance of information and strategic management in contingency scenarios.

The third chapter presents the hotel sector in Brazil, which is of great importance in the national economy, since it directly affects other sectors such as food, sales, tourism, among others.
