Synopsis

English

This study aims to demonstrate the impact of covid-19 on management processes in the hotel sector of the department of Magdalena. The research is descriptive, conducted through surveys that allow for an account of the situation in the hotel sector during the covid-19 pandemic. The analysis was carried out on 21 hotels in the SME sector. The results show that 75% of the hotels reported having the financial and budgetary capacity to meet their obligations for a period of 3 months due to the sanitary restriction measures that caused the temporary closure of these businesses for between 3 and 6 months; 64.3% reported a reduction in their workforce and 55% suspended employment contracts for between 3 and 6 months; 85% revealed that their revenues decreased during the pandemic. In order to face the economic crisis resulting from covid-19, they developed innovative strategies focused on online sales and digital platforms, which allowed them to generate income and maintain corporate stability in the market, despite the drop in the number of tourists affecting accommodations in the hotel sector. This demonstrates that the hotel sector was strongly impacted at the financial level, generating management processes that allowed companies to maintain their profitability and sustainability.
