Synopsis

This book gathers the main research developed by students, professors, and graduates of the School of Agricultural, Animal, and Environmental Sciences (ECAPMA for its Spanish acronym) of the National Open and Distance University (UNAD for its Spanish acronym) and its research group INYU-MACIZO, “A” categorized by Minciencias, which for over a decade has been developing scientific and applied research of high impact in the south Colombian region, especially in the departments of Tolima, Huila, Caqueta, and Putumayo. It is derived from a rigorous interdisciplinary work and strategic allies (environmental authorities, municipal Mayor’s Offices, public utilities companies, productive sector, among others) to become a valuable tool for management, planning, and decision making for the environmental and agricultural sector of the south Colombian region. The book is divided into two chapters: A first chapter called “Environmental Management” and a second one called “Sustainable Agricultural Development.” The results obtained in each chapter, as well as the methodological framework proposed in each of the research projects provide alternatives for sustainable agricultural management and development, allowing us to understand the potential of each system analyzed and serving as a baseline to improve productivity and competitiveness of the sector. In this context, the book presented here is a valuable reference resource to provide tools for analysis, support, planning, and management of natural resources and the territory to professionals, technicians, consultants, students of agricultural sciences, environmental, and engineering sciences, among others interested in environmental management and sustainable agricultural and livestock development.
