The Construction Of The Future And The Analysis Of Megatrends Using the Criterion Table Technique Called “Key Aspects”

Jeison Calvo Rojas,

Synopsis

What will the country look like in 2050? This will be the question to be answered with this technique, and for this purpose a methodological sequence will be used for the construction of the future and the analysis of megatrends, which requires a high degree of analysis and bibliographic review in order to identify the strong signals that the environment is trying to convey, taking into account that the study of the future is a complex and at the same time challenging endeavor.

It is difficult to study something that, according to its Latin root "futurus", means what is yet to be. Despite this restriction, humanity continues in its eagerness to explore what lies ahead. Today, the evidence and, above all, the success of many countries and organizations tells us that the future can be built and not exclusively predicted. Under this approach, in addition to considering the "probable" future (a consequence of a linear reality that comes from the past), the "possible futures" are analyzed (which accept the possibility of multiple situations occurring, either as an evolution of the present or as a break from it) (Mojica, 2005, p. 5).

From the above, the objective is to analyze and identify the strong signals and megatrends in the social, environmental, and economic spheres, and in this way approach the construction of a prospective scenario for Costa Rica by 2050. The results of the different group projects demonstrate that the country must implement strategies to bridge its gaps and build an equitable future for the entire population, since the actions taken so far have not been sufficient to envision a more modern country suited to the challenges of the future.
