Chapter 8. Knowledge management and socialization in Colombian centers

Carlos Alberto Muñoz Gutiérrez,

Synopsis

This chapter discusses the role of research, academic cooperation and internationalization in Writing, Reading, Communication and Knowledge Centers, with a focus on strengthening their institutional practices. The text is based on the premise that these processes are essential for the consolidation of academic communities and to expand the impact of the centers. It is reported how some Writing, Reading, Communication and Knowledge Centers have managed to articulate their own research, link their members in inter-institutional and international projects, and participate in cooperation networks. Similarly, structural difficulties are evident in sustaining investigative processes, such as the lack of resources, specialized training or publication spaces. However, notable cases that illustrate how centers have managed to overcome these barriers through creative strategies, international collaborations and efficient knowledge management are presented. The chapter also reflects on the role of academic events and publications as means to make their contributions visible and consolidate a scientific identity. Finally, practical recommendations are offered to strengthen these three strategic dimensions in the Writing, Reading, Communication and Knowledge Centers, such as promoting research training, establishing long-lasting alliances and defining institutional internationalization policies. This chapter expands the vision of the Writing, Reading, Communication and Knowledge Centers as dynamic environments for the production and circulation of knowledge beyond the classroom.
