Chapter 7. Academic and educational services in Colombian centers

Chapter 7 explores the academic and educational services offered by the Writing, Reading, Communication and Knowledge Centers in Colombia, highlighting their role in the training of students and professionals through strategies such as tutoring, workshops, courses and pedagogical resources. The existence of innovative initiatives such as Courses E —academic subjects with a writing component— and the offer of certified MOOCs is highlighted, which shows a commitment to strengthening reading, writing and critical thinking skills. The discussion reveals a methodological diversity in the proposals, adapted to the needs of each academic community, and shows that, although some experiences are more consolidated than others, there is a common interest in energizing learning with the support of experts and technologies. Also, good practices and shared challenges among centers are identified, proposing a continuous evaluation of their actions. This chapter fulfills a double function: on the one hand, it documents the ways in which the Writing, Reading, Communication and Knowledge Centers promote academic training in Colombia, and on the other, it compares these strategies with international models, which allows us to measure their progress, challenges and opportunities. In short, the text offers a key overview to understand how these spaces contribute to the educational development of the country.
