Gender and Early Childhood Education: Curriculum Proposal for Teacher Training

This chapter presents a curricular proposal that incorporates the gender perspective in the training of early childhood education teachers. It is based on the premise that initial education is key in the construction of gender identity, self-concept and children's vision of the world. The UNAD proposes a course on early childhood education with a gender focus, which challenges the traditional binary notion of gender and promotes a vision of it as a sociocultural construction. The text highlights the importance of critically reviewing the stereotypes, roles and sexism that are reproduced in educational environments, and how these affect the comprehensive development of infants. Also, emphasis is placed on the need for academic programs to adapt to new social dynamics to train teachers committed to equity. The proposed course is based on critical theories of gender, coeducation and children's rights, promoting pedagogical tools for educational transformation towards a more just and egalitarian society.
