Progress and Challenges of Inclusive Initial Education in the Colombian Context: Perspective of Disability and Gender Attention

Jenny Natalia Torres Zambrano , ; Harold Andrés Aguilar Bastidas ,

Synopsis

This chapter reflects on the advances and challenges of inclusive initial education in Colombia, with emphasis on attention to disability and gender equality. Based on the national regulatory framework, policies that promote inclusion from early childhood are highlighted, recognizing diversity as a value. It analyzes how the legitimate participation of children with disabilities and the use of approaches such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL) can improve their development and learning. The need to eliminate gender stereotypes and structural barriers in educational environments is emphasized. The authors conclude that, despite advances in policies and guidelines, there is still a lack of deep cultural openness that guarantees full inclusion and equity in initial education.
