Contributions of the Gender Perspective to the Work for Children’s Rights

Tania Meneses Cabrera,

Synopsis

This chapter reflects on the relationship between gender, childhood and the so-called “care crisis”. Based on social and academic questions, the need to integrate the gender perspective in the defense of children's rights is defended, highlighting how these categories are historically linked to structural inequalities. It is argued that women and feminist groups have led the struggles in this field, and an interdisciplinary view is proposed that allows generating real transformations. The author proposes incorporating disruptive practices from pedagogical and social work to influence public policies and transform the way in which children's rights are conceived and protected.
