Chapter 6. Social psychology in an evolutionary context

Oscar Eduardo Aldana León, ; Trinidad Camacho Bello, ; Kellys Dyan Arregocés Brito,

Synopsis

This chapter addresses the relationship between social psychology and modernity from a holistic perspective, highlighting how this discipline has been influenced by constantly evolving capitalist ideologies. Through a sociohistorical analysis, the text explores the origins of social psychology and its fragmentation into specialties, emphasizing the lack of a unifying paradigm. It also stresses the importance of recognizing the contributions of this discipline in addressing contemporary human issues, emphasizing that psychology always has a social component, regardless of the epistemological framework from which it is interpreted.

The chapter also examines interdisciplinary influences (anthropology, sociology, philosophy) and the ideological and sociohistorical causes that shape this science. Finally, it underscores the shared responsibility of science and academia in promoting social balance, asserting that any theoretical advancement must be interpreted from a historical and evolutionary perspective to foster a transformative social projection.
