Synopsis

Chapter 3 of the book focuses on three main areas within the field of basic sciences, technology and engineering:

Implementation of a brain-computer interface for people with cerebral palsy:

The chapter presents the results of a research project that aims to develop a brain-computer interface (BCI) for people with cerebral palsy. The BCI uses electroencephalographic (EEG) signals to predict the intention of movement of the right hand, allowing users to control a cursor or electronic device with their mind.

Initiative and results of participation in the Latin American innovation rally:

UNAD actively participates in the Latin American Innovation Rally, an international competition that calls on universities from all over Latin America to propose creative solutions to social, environmental, and organizational problems, among others. In 2021, a multidisciplinary team from CIP Dosquebradas obtained fourth place with the Oxiplant project, which seeks to solve the lack of drinking water by treating rainwater with aquatic plants.

Promoting the equity component of UNAD through the generación-e agreement, by preparing first-time university students for professional training, in the digital tools course:

The chapter presents a study on the impact of the Digital Tools for Knowledge Management (HDGC) course on the development of digital skills in students who enter UNAD under the Generación-E agreement. This agreement seeks free tuition and access to higher education for everyone in all regions of the country. The study found that the HDGC course provides students with the knowledge necessary to recognize and use technological tools and online office platforms, which facilitates their continuity in higher education.
