Capítulo 1. De las ciencias agrícolas, pecuarias y del medio ambiente

Chapter 1 of the book focuses on two main themes: research in agriculture and biotechnology as a tool for integral territorial development, and the conception of agricultural sciences at UNAD in the Colombian Coffee Region.

The Center for Research in Agriculture and Biotechnology (CIAB) of UNAD is presented as an institution dedicated to research for sustainable development and technology transfer to communities. Its main objective is to improve the quality of life of people through sustainable and profitable agricultural and livestock production, adaptation to climate change and popular food sovereignty.

The School of Agricultural, Livestock and Environmental Sciences (ECAPMA) of UNAD in the Coffee Region focuses on research to solve the challenges of the agricultural sector in the region. Needs have been identified in pest and disease management, and in the morphoagronomic characteristics of different crops such as beans, lulo, bananas, coffee, chontaduro, arracacha and onions. ECAPMA's research contributes to the development of the primary sector, which is the basis of the productive sector.
