Occupational Safety and Health: A Historical Overview and Recent Developments Since the Enactment of Decree 1072 of 2015 in Colombia

This chapter presents some of the progress achieved through the implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System in Colombian companies. It begins with an analysis of the System's historical evolution, previously known as "Occupational Health." A review of current legislation was also conducted, followed by an analysis of occupational risk statistics published by the Ministry of Labor, and finally, national experts were consulted in order to establish the current state of the System's implementation. The research employed a qualitative and quantitative study describing advances in occupational health and safety in Colombia and the management actions carried out since the issuance of Decree 1072 of 2015, which regulates the System.
