Fundamentals of Organizational Competitiveness in the Leather Tanning Industry

Ludwin Alexander Sánchez Vargas,

Synopsis

This chapter presents an overview of the leather supply chain in Colombia and examines in depth the situation of tannery companies in the municipality of Chocontá, in Cundinamarca. The diagnostic was developed within the framework of the research project entitled Strengthening Business Management in MSMEs of the Leather Supply Chain in the Municipality of Chocontá (Cun.), grounded in aspects related to strategic thinking, strategic management, value creation, and corporate social responsibility. Based on this diagnostic, a support program is proposed to strengthen the business management of these organizations, enabling them to face the multiple challenges that threaten the continuity and growth of productive units that are essential for improving the productivity of this economic sector and achieving optimal levels of competitiveness. The proposed program can be applied to any MSME across the various productive supply chains as a means of materializing the social outreach mission of the Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia (UNAD).
