Competitiveness as a key factor influencing the agricultural sector’s expansion into international markets

Elena del Carmen Restrepo Álvarez,

Synopsis

The agricultural sector is fundamental to the country's food security, as it drives all economic dynamics at both the national and international level. It supplies a range of products that have gained strong acceptance abroad — including coffee, flowers, Hass avocado, and cacao — and that have been entering new markets in recognition of their quality, good agricultural practices, producer associations, State support, and industry groups that have steadily strengthened productive capacity through academic partnerships and the country's remarkable climate diversity. It is in this context that competitiveness and the application of each of its pillars become central to achieving a prominent position in the international market.
