Synopsis

Education is enshrined in the Political Constitution of Colombia (1991) in its Article 67 as "a right of the individual and a public service that has a social function; it seeks access to knowledge, science, technology, and other goods and values of culture."

Therefore, every person in Colombia has the right to education, but some do not enjoy the same opportunities, as is the case of prison inmates, most of whom suffered discrimination, which caused multiple difficulties in their lives such as physical, labor, educational and economic, among others, so they decide to take other paths, most of them ending up in prisons.

The objective of this document is to present the results of the research "Relevance of formal education in the penitentiary and prison centers in the city of Valledupar", on a sample of 128 inmates in the penitentiary and prison centers of the city of Valledupar, to whom a structured survey was applied under the Likert model to collect the information they have about the relevance of formal education and then analyze the impact of formal education in the process of resocialization of inmates in penitentiary and prison centers.
