Challenges of Colombia Regarding the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)

Julialba Ángel Osorio (ed),

Synopsis

This book examines the challenges Colombia faces in joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), from a critical and multidisciplinary perspective. Through three interconnected chapters, researchers from the Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia (UNAD) analyse the social and economic implications of accession—including wealth inequality, employment, productivity, education, research and taxation—; assess Colombia's labour landscape and human resources management challenges against OECD standards; and develop a critical analysis of the organisation's economic models for Latin America, questioning its bioeconomic, agricultural and food policies. The book concludes that the OECD's normative and economic frameworks primarily serve transnational capital interests and diverge from the aspirations of Latin American peoples, proposing sovereign alternatives grounded in local development.
