Synopsis

Education for the Realization of the Communal offers a critical reading of the role of education in Latin America against the hegemonic development model promoted by international bodies such as the OECD, the UN, and the OAS. Across three interconnected chapters, the book examines the tension between state-defined ethnoeducation and the "indigenous-led education" advocated by the Misak community in Cauca, Colombia; traces the historical agency and current conditions of rural Colombian women, drawing on field evidence from the municipalities of Balboa and La Celia (Risaralda); and synthesizes, through Arturo Escobar's autonomous design framework, how education can contribute to communal flourishing by democratizing knowledge, fostering critical thought, and building social justice. The volume is a rigorous contribution to debates on intercultural education, rural feminism, and decolonial pedagogies in the Latin American context.

Keywords: communal education, ethnoeducation, indigenous peoples, rural women, decoloniality, pedagogical leadership, Colombia, community autonomy
