Synopsis

(In) Certainties of Development: Fissures, Narratives and Other Paths brings together four critical essays that challenge the development discourse as a technology of control and subjugation of rural peoples and territories. Drawing on the work of Arturo Escobar and Foucauldian thought, the texts analyze the historical formation of the developmentalist discourse since the postwar period, the narratives of the knowledge society as a new mechanism of domination, community experiences in cacao-growing zones of the Colombian Pacific, and the capitalization of nature within the context of the global neoliberal Empire. From Latin American perspectives and with academic voices from Colombia and Brazil, the work proposes alternative paths that recognize diversity, community resistance, and territorial empowerment as real possibilities in the face of capitalist homogenization.

Keywords: development discourse, post-development, rural territories, community resistance, biopolitics, territorial policies, capitalization of nature
