Synopsis

The book introduced in these lines is the result of the research project called “Debates desde la Ciencia Política para comprender y actuar en los retos de la década de los años veine del siglo XXI” (Debates from Political Science to understand and act in the challenges of the decade of the twenties during the XXI century) developed throughout the year 2020 at the School of Legal and Political Sciences of the Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia (UNAD), university to which five of the contributors are researchers and teachers. Four researchers from Spanish universities (three from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, and one from the Universidad de Tenerife) and a researcher from the Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla, Mexico, have also collaborated in this endeavor. This is a task in which editors, coordinators, and authors have had the full support of the School, embodied in its dean, whom we thank for her confidence in the project. The results provide inputs for reflection and deepening of some relevant debates on political science and international relations. Specifically, challenges of the global context are identified and ideas are offered to face them from political science and international relations, in the light of epistemological approaches sensitive to differential visions, and providing a Latin American vision. All this is filtered by a double specificity: on the one hand, the characteristics and potential of the School of Legal and Political Sciences (teaching and research in public policy, international relations, conflict resolution, and sustainable human development); and on the other, the mission and goals of the UNAD, its territorial presence in the country and its commitment to improve and strengthen the political science discipline in Colombia.
