Synopsis

The Center for Research and Communitarian Psychosocial Action (CIAPSC, for its Spanish acronym), from the National Open and Distance University (UNAD, for its Spanish acronym) in its southern zone, and for Colombia is pleased to present to the reader a second volume of research and reflexive production with social projection. The new decade began full of challenges for humanity: 2020 that comes with a pandemic because of COVID-19, reveals the social, political, health, labor, and educational weaknesses, a structural problem for which societies were not prepared but also makes visible the potential of higher education institutions such as UNAD, the largest institution among public and private ones. The pandemic allowed thousands of Colombians to confirm and trust UNAD's virtual education as the best answer to their training needs. These challenges did not prevent the scientific and academic progress and extension of UNAD. From the CIAPSC research center, we continue building research, training human capital, and projecting proposals articulated to the public and private sectors to generate actions that impact the region. Therefore, this book presents reflections and theoretical research analyses that opt to generate actions for change in times of crisis. Three major chapters are presented: "Psychosocial and Mental Health Impacts" as a fundamental axis of the work that the Pasos de Libertad (Steps of Freedom in English) research group and researchers carry out from the CIAPSC; "Quality of Life and Social Transformation" as an axis linked to both UNAD’s purpose and the Millennium Development Goals; finally, "Education and Technology for Social Inclusion" as a cornerstone that has been strengthened and has allowed more people in the region and the country through UNAD to be included in education through technological and innovative resources. As the leader of CIAPSC, I am grateful for the honor of presenting this book to the leader, which is hoped to be a collection that will generate social impact, scientific knowledge, and interest in the community in general.
