Synopsis

The Human Milk Ban (HMB) is a strategy for neonatal and child survival. Processing, quality control, and supply of human milk to hospitalized neonates ensure food and nutritional security for premature, thus helping to reduce undernutrition and newborn and child mortality. For newborns, proper nutrition is a critical aspect since without an appropriate intake of food in the necessary proportions and under sanitary human milk conditions, the child won’t have the needed nutrition for its normal development and growth. For this reason, in the following paper, the UNAD joins forces with the Human Milk Bank of the Federico Lleras Acosta ESE Hospital – Tolima to provide solutions and alternatives to the current issues, and that required a research methodology that would allow the design and development of the Sanitation in Human Milk Banks Validation Protocol, causing higher productivity, performance and a product that preserves its nutritional and organoleptic properties for newborns. Therefore, we presented a project aiming to design a protocol for processes and cleaning and disinfection procedures to assess sanitization of the equipment used in the HMB, thereby contributing to and assuring innocuous equipment that will store human milk for the newborn population. The results from the breakdown in methodology phases are presented through this research. And the analysis of reports, design and build, assessment and validation of the protocol, and socialization of the results obtained. Improvement opportunities will be presented, from which stands out the self-assessment and proper execution of cleaning and disinfection procedures of the equipment used in the HMB.
