The Diamond Strategy

Ana María Gómez Londoño,

Synopsis

After graphite, diamond is the most stable form of carbon because its crystalline and cubic structure represents a strong bond, which is guaranteed to last over time. That formula is the reason why I chose the name of the Diamond Strategy, because I want to focus on the lasting confluence of efforts and resources of the four institutional sectors with which I work: Government, education, industry and commerce, and national and international cooperation for the long-term sustainability of social development and peace-building processes. First, in order to achieve a more intelligent economy of inter-institutional cooperation, I take into consideration the concept that Michael Porter and Mark R. Kramer have called "Creating Shared Value (CSV)1*, attending to "policies and operational practices that improve the competitiveness of an entity while helping to improve economic and social conditions in communities" (2011, p. 6) and, secondly, I establish a definition of shared value that materially specifies the alliances between Academia - Government - Industrial Sector and National and International Cooperation of the Diamond Strategy. This last contribution of the book allows for a virtuous articulation where technological innovation, human talent education and territorial competitiveness are interdependent components of the same ecosystem of development. The Diamond Strategy incorporates as its dynamic core the two meanings of the CSV. It represents the transition to a relational economy, in which development is built in constant dialog with government opportunities (public policies, development plans, programs, initiatives and agreements), the vocational prioritizations of the territories -which are industrial powers-, and the strategic determinations of national and international cooperation -on a global board.
The Diamond Strategy proposes an intervention with intergenerational projection, where the benefits are measurable both in economic terms and in collective wellbeing, which enables an institutional ecosystem that creates opportunities for more than three generations. The latter corresponds to the post-war reparation approach under the principle of cultural memory used in the strategy: the creation of employment, economic and educational opportunities, lasting over time. This action-research was awarded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation with the National Orchid Award - Women in Science: Agents for Peace, because it was framed in the strategic planning of research policies focused by missions. In this case, it focused on the construction of solutions that promote and strengthen peaceful coexistence in conditions of equity, social justice and expansion of educational and productive capacities in the Colombian Pacific through cooperation with countries focused on the future of work and sustainable development
