Synopsis

The book "Sustainable Tourism: Alternative for Territorial Development" is a valuable academic contribution that brings together research, case studies, and practical reflections on the role of tourism in promoting sustainable development in various regions of Colombia and Ecuador. The work, written by an interdisciplinary team of professors, researchers, and students from different higher education institutions, focuses on the analysis of community-based tourism, ecotourism, agrotourism, and other sustainable tourism modalities, highlighting their potential to stimulate local economies, strengthen the social fabric, and preserve natural and cultural heritage.

Through ten chapters, the text addresses key topics such as strategic planning in tourism MSMEs, the implementation of sustainability indicators, destination governance, and environmental education. It also presents case studies from regions such as Santa Marta, Pasto, Paipa, southern Cesar, Bolívar, and Cotacachi (Ecuador), which provide insight into real-life experiences, best practices, and structural challenges facing tourism in diverse territorial contexts.

One of the book's most relevant aspects is its participatory approach and its alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting inclusive, resilient, and innovative tourism models. The work highlights the importance of collaboration between communities, governments, the private sector, and academic institutions to consolidate tourism projects with a positive social and environmental impact.

Aimed at students, teachers, entrepreneurs, and public policymakers, the book offers useful conceptual and methodological tools for building sustainable tourism destinations, reaffirming tourism as a key driver for territorial development with equity and responsibility.
