Rituals for a Nest : Nesting, Hatchery, Weeds, and Garden Pansies

Raúl Alejandro Martínez Espinosa,

Synopsis

“Rituals for a Nest” refers to a research-creation that I began five years ago with the vital experience of parenthood and the realization of various rituals around the birth, the action of appropriating ancestral practices with midwives, and the vision of accompaniment from traditional medicine to promote understanding of the exercise of forming a family nucleus. The birth of my children meant for my partner and me a process analogous to a work production in the sense of exploring different sensibilities, scenarios, practices, and rituals. I understand art as a practice of liberating power without whose forces it would be impossible to unlock issues that grow more complex in the psyche, fears, and aspects that enclose and prevent the emergence of new life.
