Intervene to Transform: Quality of Life and Social Recognition of Urban Recyclers : Calidad de Vida y Reconocimiento Social de los Recicladores Urbanos

Jeisson Tobías Rengifo Cuervo, ; Gloria Isabel Vargas Hurtado, ; Deysy Carolina Villarraga Guzmán,

Synopsis

This work emerges from a process of applied social research that documents, analyzes, and proposes alternatives to improve the quality of life of recyclers in the communities of Kennedy and Engativá in Bogotá. Its value lies not only in the methodological rigor with which it was developed—articulating the sequential exploratory approach (DEXPLOS) with participatory tools, statistical analysis, and specialized theoretical review—but also in its ability to influence the formulation of public and community strategies aimed at transforming structurally exclusionary realities. Publishing this work is urgent and pertinent in a context where recyclers continue to be invisible actors, despite their fundamental role in urban sustainability, the circular economy, and environmental management in cities.
