Synopsis

The text begins by contextualizing the armed conflict in Colombia, from its historical roots to its manifestation in the contemporary armed conflict, highlighting bipartisan violence, guerrillas, and drug trafficking. It underlines that despite attempts at pacification and the intervention of social movements in Tolima between 2012 and 2016, violence and exclusion remain significant problems.

In the legal sphere, the book highlights the importance of the 1991 Constitution and laws related to education, such as Law 1732 of 2014 and Decree 1038 of 2015, which establish the mandatory teaching of peace and human rights in educational institutions.

From a pedagogical and conceptual perspective, the book proposes a critical review of how peace is taught in Colombia, arguing that peace education should go beyond the classroom and promote a culture of peace through the experience of civic values and peaceful conflict resolution. The text also questions the current pedagogical model and its capacity to form citizens committed to peace in a context of high inequality and violence.

Finally, the book advocates a curricular proposal that is not only limited to theory, but also pushes for a human-centered educational practice, where respect, solidarity and love are fundamental. In this sense, its proposal is for peace education to be a lived experience that transforms both students and teachers.

In essence, the book is a call to transform education in Colombia so that it can effectively contribute to the construction of a lasting peace, highlighting the need for a more comprehensive and deeper approach than that offered by current initiatives.
