Synopsis

The ancestral economy of the Wayuu population is based, for the most part, on the production of Wayuu handicrafts; sheep or goat farming, in large proportion; fishing; agriculture; salt, and the commercialization of these products. From its beginnings, the Wayuu people carried out the aforementioned economic activities. This situation began to change in the 1970s with the rise of smuggling and the marijuana boom, which led many Wayuu to abandon their ancestral practices in favor of new commercial activities. Furthermore, over the years, the situation worsened due to the lack of preparation and adaptation to an increasingly globalized and competitive world.

Therefore, it is proposed to develop a distribution and promotion center for the Wayuu ancestral economy that provides not only raw materials for the recovery of the Wayuu economy, but also generates control and monitoring to ensure continuity. Additionally, it must help strengthen the economy through constant preparation and training, with the aim of establishing itself as a unifier of small Wayuu entrepreneurs in associations that work together for their development and maximum growth. Likewise, the center must promote food and basic products to mitigate the malnutrition and diseases that plague the Wayuu people.
