Synopsis

The purpose of this article is to provide a detailed assessment of the current state and future projections of the electric automotive sector in Colombia, analyzing key factors such as manufacturing, commercialization, and the regulatory framework. The focus is on the tangible opportunities and challenges the country faces in establishing sustainable and decarbonized mobility.

Adopting a qualitative methodology, the research was based on an analysis of secondary sources, ranging from scientific articles to technical reports and various academic publications relevant to the Colombian context. Topics such as the environmental landscape, market trends, and the regulatory framework were analyzed.

The findings reveal that the electric vehicle industry in Colombia, despite its palpable growth trajectory, faces significant barriers. These include the need for more robust government policies, the imperative to develop adequate charging infrastructure, and the urgency to expand the range of electric car options available to domestic consumers.

Furthermore, the study highlights that the path towards a sustainable and low-carbon transport system in Colombia is not an isolated effort, but requires close collaboration between the government, the vehicle industry, and civil society. This intersectoral collaboration should be oriented towards overcoming the detected obstacles and actively promoting the adoption of electric mobility. To achieve this, it is crucial to implement measures such as the optimization of tax benefits, the consolidation of local production processes, and the promotion of scientific and technical innovation in the field of electricity-powered transportation.

Finally, it is essential to consider that the shift towards electromobility is not just a technical or economic issue, but also a cultural one. Colombia, with its rich history and diversity, has the opportunity to be a regional leader in this transition, creating a transport system that can be emulated elsewhere in Latin America.
