Synopsis

Strengthening teachers' digital competencies is essential in the new knowledge society for the qualification of educational practice. The research explored the digital competence of 1210 higher education professionals, who completed the e-Mediator certificate course in VPA at the Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia (UNAD), in the years 2020, 2021 and 2022 to identify trends in the use, application, training and attitude towards ICT. The design was a quantitative, non-experimental, longitudinal approach, using two instruments: a sociodemographic survey and the “Digital competence of teachers in higher education” questionnaire, validated by Agreda & Hinojo (2016). Four dimensions were addressed: Digital literacy, Educational methodology through ICTs in the classroom, Teacher education, and Attitude towards ICTs in Higher Education. The results reveal trends, and in turn encourage innovative training routes for teacher educational processes.

Keywords: teacher competencies, digital literacy, pedagogical innovation, educational technology, professional training, e-learning, educational inclusion, digital transformation
