Synopsis

This chapter presents a critical look at the role of education in the processes of memory and oblivion. It is argued that the educational system has been complicit in processes of silencing and forgetfulness, by reproducing hegemonic versions of the past and omitting the voices of the victims. Through alternative pedagogical experiences, the author proposes an education for memory, based on the recognition of others, the dignity of victims and the promotion of critical citizenship. The text proposes that classrooms can be settings for symbolic justice and cultural transformation in post-conflict contexts.

es licenciado en filosofía de la Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia (UNAD) y, de la misma institución, especialista en educación, cultura y política. Es magíster en desarrollo educativo y social de la Universidad Pedagógica Nacional (UPN) y la Fundación Centro Internacional de Educación y Desarrollo Humano (Cinde), Colombia. Es docente de planta de la Secretaría de Educación de Sogamoso y docente ocasional de la Escuela Ciencias de la Educación (ECEDU), de la UNAD
