Synopsis

University academic success from the students' perception of autonomy is a product of new knowledge derived from the project PG0401ECEDU2022 (Students' perceptions of their autonomy and the impact on academic success in virtual education) developed by the AMECI Research Group of the Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia (UNAD) and the Engineering, Environmental Sciences and Innovation Research Group of the Fundación Universitaria Católica del Norte (FUCN) in the UNAD Call for Research Groups No. 10/2021.

The results of studies on the perceptions of autonomy have suggested that the academic success of students in virtual higher education is related to their perceptions, their degree of satisfaction, their performance, and the persistence they show when they remain active in the system. This is educational research developed from quantitative and qualitative approaches, with a descriptive and analytical design of a correlational type, whose purpose was to determine if the variable perception of autonomy is related to the academic success of students in virtual programs. Using non-probabilistic sampling, 430 students participated (265 from UNAD and 165 from FUCN). The Level of Autonomy Scale (ENA) was applied and databases with information on academic performance (2022) were analyzed. Spearman's rho assessment coefficient (rs) was calculated; significant correlations were recorded between the dimensions measured in the autonomy variable but not between autonomy and academic success.
