Analysis of the nature of corruption

This chapter provides a systematic literature review on corruption, examining its main theoretical, conceptual, and methodological approaches. It analyzes different definitions of corruption, its causes, and its economic and social consequences, as well as institutional and societal mechanisms proposed to control it. The chapter also reviews the indicators used to measure corruption and synthesizes the main research streams that have addressed the phenomenon from economic, political, cultural, and organizational perspectives.
