Synopsis

“Representations on early childhood education: Infancies in contingency” is the first academic product resulting from the interinstitutional research project “Representations on early childhood education: findings on feelings in times of pandemic,” in which researchers from four Colombian universities participated (Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia [UNAD, for its Spanish acronym], Universidad de San Buenaventura-Bogotá headquarters, Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga and the Institución Universitaria Iberoamericana).

This project arises from the interest of four universities that offer training programs for early childhood educators. These institutions are members of the Board of Directors of the Asociación Colombiana de Educación Preescolar-ACDEP (Colombian Association of Preschool Education), a subsidiary of the World Organization for Early Childhood Education (OMEP). Therefore, these universities are constantly making reflections to contribute to the strengthening of early childhood education as a field of knowledge and also intending to assist educational institutions, preschools, and other early childhood educational agents in promoting relevant and quality educational practices.

This book shares reflections and results of the project, going through the representations on early childhood education; this, in an attempt to reveal how the contingency experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic has affected them, the children’s lives, their educational process, their families, their teachers, and their institution—particularly at a time when there has been much talk about children but no conversations with them.
