Educational Project for the New Rurality : Educational Project of the School of Agricultural, Livestock, and Environmental Sciences – UNAD

Luz Elena Santacoloma Varón,

Synopsis

This document is composed of several chapters. The first chapter provides an institutional contextualization, highlighting the most relevant regulatory framework. It also makes a brief description of its history, which shows the progress made regarding the presence of the university in all regions of the country over time. Additionally, it presents the “moments” that have set milestones in the evolution of the School of Agricultural, Livestock, and Environmental Sciences (ECAPMA, for its Spanish acronym), and its developments in terms of the portfolio and diversification of academic programs. It also offers a detailed analysis of the policy references for ECAPMA's programs.

The second chapter presents the conceptual and epistemological bases supporting the developments of agricultural and environmental sciences in the construction of knowledge. It highlights the high complexity and the need to establish permanent dialogues between different disciplines, both exact, natural, and (or) social, and emphasizes the need to seek interdisciplinary approaches to address agrifood and environmental issues. Moreover, it presents an overview of the leading schools of thought on food production. The chapter concludes with an outlook on the prospects of the new rurality as an approach to achieving integrated rural development.

The third chapter focuses on curricular and pedagogical aspects, emphasizing the curricular structure by problem categories or problem areas. Moreover, it indicates and describes the most commonly used pedagogical and didactic strategies in undergraduate and graduate programs, notorious for their level of innovation and the use of media and mediation. For its part, the fourth chapter presents an overview of each one of the programs that make up the training process and the organizational structure as an element that enables the development and progress of ECAPMA.

The document is proposed as an important guide for the students of ECAPMA since it gathers the set of norms, principles, and concepts that define the educational model, as well as the actions and instruments that make it operative.
