Synopsis

In our America, Community Social Psychology (CSP), in the field of action, accompaniment, research, and academic training, accounts for the diversity of integrative views of the complex psychosocial and community networks of the region, as well as the collective efforts to strengthen and consolidate the discipline.

Thus, the chapters present a broad range of views to do, have, and be in the CSP of the 21st century. In fact, it can be seen as a discipline in movement, which has changed the focus point and study of the social agents with whom it works. Although, in the beginning, the CSP focused on studying the community, defined by Maritza Montero (2004) as a group of people in constant transformation and development, who have a relationship of belonging to each other, with social identity and community awareness. Nowadays, the study and definition of the term community are questioned by the epistemologies of the South–as Boaventura de Sousa Santos states–by weighing the communitarian’s establishment of bonds in the communing element as a substance of the ontic being, in the sense of “we”, and in the feeling and thinking the territory.
