Synopsis

The very title of this pedagogical booklet highlights the extremely serious problem that young people lack more and more proper knowledge regarding the history of the places where they were born, grew up, and developed. The above is stated after successfully conducting a diagnostic research, which showed little or null knowledge from most of the subjects involved in the study regarding the facts that sustain the cultural identity of a town that has traditionally been the weaver of hammocks, mochilas (handmade crossbody bags), and dreams. That is the case of the municipality of Morroa, Sucre, which, since pre-Hispanic times, has been commercially significant due to its handicraft products. The evidence also shows that during the colonial and republican era, this town was appreciated by the Spanish people, Creoles, and people in general for the artisans’ and farmers’ quality of their creations. This was a synchronous gear in which farmers supplied artisans with the necessary raw materials to manufacture “on-demand” hammocks and weavings (Navas et al., 2020).
