Synopsis

In this book derived from research, entitled Knowledge, Power and New Forms of Struggle in Michel Foucault, it is argued that Michel Foucault's research attempts to unmask the status of the modern subject, the constituent subject, for which he makes permanent displacements that allow him to open his reflection to a search that concludes with the proposal of an ethics as an art of living that emerges as an exercise of resistance to political power and to the mechanisms of subjection in the West. Power and resistance are constant concerns that appear throughout his philosophical itinerary in different forms. His elaborations on power relations do not lead him to propose the impossibility of escaping power relations, the micro-powers and macro-powers that regulate life. The French thinker does not theorize an essentially repressive power from which it is impossible to escape. The hypothesis that guides this book considers that Foucault answers the questions: why resist? why oppose submission? why is struggle preferable to submission? without introducing normative notions that allow us to say what is wrong with the modern regime of truth production and why oppose it. Ethical problematization allows the French philosopher to account for the human condition in modernity without resorting to a self-referential crypto-normativism.
