Synopsis

The research center Administrators of Knowledge, identifies unemployment in the city of Popayán as a problem that constantly afflicts the business sectors, academics and specifically graduates of universities and more specifically, graduates of the administration program of Business. For these reasons, it is proposed to work on the subject from a diagnostic study to determine, according to the profile of graduates of the UNAD Business Administration program, their employment status compared to the existing job offer in the city of Popayán 2010 – 2016. The research is framed in the theory of human capital and the incorporation of more recent theories such as the Theory of the Row (TF), the Theory of the Devaluation of Certificates (TDC), the Theory of Education as a Positional Good (TEBP), Theory of Segmentation (TS) and Theory of Alternative Approach (TEA) that includes approaches to human capabilities and human freedom. In addition, it is developed with a quantitative
approach, descriptive scope, using the survey and secondary sources as a technique for the collection of information corresponding to each one of the proposed objectives. Finally, the majority of the graduates who are currently working belong to a company under the condition of employees, and only a select group has created their own company. However, the most alarming figures indicate that a smaller but important percentage equivalent to 17% is unemployed. This indicates that not all graduates of the Administration program are an active part of the work environment. In this way, it can be interpreted that the percentage of students in unemployment status has not changed significantly, because the same percentage that is currently working, also did at the beginning of the program. However, employees on unemployment status state that the reason why they remain in such a situation is because the companies do not offer them professional fees that adjust
to their salary expectations. This reality unfortunately affects many graduates leaving them outside the work environment.
