Categories of analysis for a university social responsibility plan

Yolanda González Castro, ; Omaira Manzano Durán, ; Marleny Torres Zamudio,

Synopsis

The book analyzes the concept of University Social Responsibility (USR) and proposes a set of analytical categories that can serve as a basis for designing institutional plans aimed at strengthening universities’ social commitment. Based on a qualitative documentary research approach and bibliometric analysis of scientific databases, the authors examine the evolution of the concept of USR and its development in academic literature. The study identifies eight key categories: organizational learning, regional needs, internationalization and interculturality, sustainability and quality of life, networks, innovative planning, institutional philosophy, and humanization. These categories are integrated into a systemic framework that supports the planning of social responsibility strategies within higher education institutions. The book argues that universities must integrate teaching, research, and social outreach in order to contribute to sustainable development, social justice, and the education of ethically responsible professionals.

Keywords: university social responsibility, higher education, university management, regional development, knowledge transfer, sustainability, humanization in education, university stakeholders
