The funeral sector in Colombia and global trends regarding final resting places: a technology watch study

This article shows parcial results obtained in the denominated study “Study of technologic surveillance and competitive intelligence for the enterprise Grupo Obelisco Ltda. Guiding to the diversification of its services portfolio in the implementation of the final destiny’s process”. The inhumation or cremation in Colombia are the only two disposed options for the funerary enterprises for the disposition of remains without having in count with an ecologic alternative, generating a problematic of environmental order, social and economic in the department. The project described was developed as fundamental base of its development the technology surveillance methodology Innovitech. Through the specialized search it could be identified that n Colombia, the funeral sector has grown significantly in recent years, allowing it to project this as a dynamic sector, with a tendency to innovate in the provision of the service, however, a low participation in academic and technological production was found. Taking into account the characteristics of the sector in the country, the technological trends of the sector worldwide and the established from the economy and experimental marketing it is concluded that in the country it is pertinent to generate technological development that facilitates the experience of the death of a being beloved and of the duel that emerges from this.
