Synopsis

This work presents the results of research on primate conservation in southern Colombia, specifically in the municipality of Pitalito, Huila, within the Colombian Massif. The book is divided into two chapters. The first studies the common squirrel monkey (Saimiri sciureus albigena) in the Pompeya natural reserve, conducting inventories of flora (27 families, 65 species, including the endemic Zamia huilensis), fauna (130 bird species, 8 mammals), and water resources, identifying threats such as agricultural frontier expansion. The second chapter focuses on the red howler monkey (Alouatta seniculus) in the Serranía Peñas Blancas reserve, characterizing its habitat, identifying vulnerable flora species (black oak, real comino), and formulating an environmental management plan with strategic lines for conservation, ecosystem restoration, isolation of protected areas, and environmental education. The work constitutes a valuable tool for biodiversity planning and management in protected areas of the Southern Colombian region.
